The Programmes We Run
Three structured educational programmes, each designed to be completed without rushing and returned to afterward.
Back to HomeHow the Programmes Are Structured
Each programme at Chai Advisors follows a pattern developed over several years of running them in Udon Thani: the material is introduced carefully, discussed together in a small group, and then given time to be considered before the next session. This is not a fast process, and it is not intended to be.
The facilitator does not present slides and take questions at the end. Each session is a working session β participants are expected to bring the questions that have formed since they last met, and the facilitator is expected to address them directly. Where a question falls outside the scope of an educational programme, this is said plainly, and participants are pointed toward where they might find the relevant professional.
The companion materials for each programme are written specifically for it. They are reference documents, not takeaways from a conference. The expectation is that participants will use them again β when they encounter a relevant situation, when they review their household finances at year-end, or when they recommend a programme to someone in a similar position.
The Reading on Risk and Time Horizon
A four-session programme on two words that appear constantly in personal finance discussions and are rarely examined with any care: risk and time horizon. The facilitator draws on historical data from Thai and regional markets to show participants how the meaning of risk changes significantly depending on the length of one's time horizon, and how households at 40 and above might think about both with appropriate care.
- What risk actually means in personal finance, and how it depends on time
- Historical patterns in Thai and regional markets
- How to map household goals to a realistic time horizon
- Writing a one-page personal time horizon note to keep
The Year in Review: A Household Closing
A one-day workshop each December for those who would prefer to close their financial year with some care rather than at the last moment. The facilitator walks through an Annual Review template developed specifically for the Thai household β covering contributions, allowances, provident fund timing, year-end gifting considerations, and the reflective questions that often accompany this time of year. Participants leave with a draft closing review for their own household.
- The Annual Review template for Thai households
- Year-end contribution and allowance timing
- Reflective prompts for household financial review
- Completing a draft closing review for the year
Long Reading: A Household Library of Personal Finance
A four-month programme of monthly meetings in which participants build a personal household library of financial reading. Each month introduces one carefully selected book β a mix of classic and contemporary titles, all in English β accompanied by a printed companion guide that contextualises the book's key ideas for the Thai household. The facilitator hosts a calm group discussion at each meeting. Participants keep the books and the companion guides, and many continue returning to them in the years that follow.
- Four books selected for intellectual quality and long-term usefulness
- Companion guides contextualising each book for Thai households
- Monthly facilitated discussion β calm, unhurried, participant-led
- A personal household library to take away and return to
